The Venus of Urbino is an oil painting by the Italian master Titan in 1538. It depicts a nude young lady, identified with the goddess Venus, laying on a couch in the surrounding of a Renaissance palace. Titan has domesticated Venus by moving her to an indoor setting and engaging with the viewer. One must note the frankness of Venus's expression. She is staring straight at the viewer, unconcerned by her lack of clothes. The sleeping dog hints that the woman is unfaithful.
