The Expulsion form the Garden of Eden is a fresco by the Italian Renaissance artist Masaccio. The fresco is a single scene from the cycle painted by Masaccio around 1425. The painting depicts the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the biblical book of Genesis. Three centuries after the fresco was painted, fig leaves were painted to conceal the genitals of the figures. They were removed when the painting was fully restored and cleaned.
Historical restoration is an interesting topic to debate. Removing the fig leaves and restoring the painting to its original form looses the history of the painting. Would Masaccio have wanted them removed? Do you have the right to make decisions of this type?
