Pine Forest Tohaku

Tohaku lived from 1539 until 1610. He was a professional painter from age of 20. In Pine Forest, the trees emerge from and recede into a heavy mist. In Zen terms, the picture suggests the illusory nature of mundane reality while evoking a meditative mood.
Of all of the works I have examined so far, this is my favorite.
