Meditating Buddha from Ghandhara

The Meditating Buddha was found in Gandhara, Pakistan, near the Kyhber Pass. It was completed in the second century. It is now on display at the National Museum of Scotland (that makes sense). The hand positioning of the Meditating Buddha is symbolic of intense inner focus. The bulge of hair on top of the head is symbolic of great wisdom. The lions on the bottom are associated in royalty and the Buddha's royal background.
