The Great Stupa of Sanchi is the most elaborate and well known of the Buddhist monuments that crown the hilltop of Sanchi (of which there are more than 50). It was build between the third century BCE and the twelfth century CE. The studpa is not a building. It was once a burial mound and has now become a purely symbolic object. The Great Stupa is 120 feet across and is 54 feet high.
