Great Mosque Damascus

The Great Mosque of Damascus is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world. It is number four on the list of holiest places in Islam. The mosque was built on the Christian basilica to John the Baptist after the Arab conquest of Damascus. The minaret in the southeast corner is called the Minaret of Jesus because many Muslims believe that it is here that Jesus will appear.
