OT Kings, Chartres Cathedral
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartes is a Catholic cathedral located in Chartes, which is about 50 miles southwest of Paris. It is considered on one of the finest examples in all of France of the Gothic style of architecture. On the outside of the church there are numerous statues of kings and queens. The entrance is known as the royal portal. These figures are based on figures from the Old Testament, but they were regarded as images of current kinds and queens. The royal kings and queens are displayed slightly lower than the religious sculptures, but still very close. This represents the authority of royalty.
