CircleA definition of God. God is a circle whose circumference is no where, but whose center is everywhere. Circle idea leaks into art. The circle represents eternity.
Square
Represents the earth and man. It has four corners and is flat, like the earth.
A pendentive is a constructive device permitting the placing of a circular dome over a square room or an elliptical dome over a rectangular room. The photograph to the right is from the inside of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
