Greek Statues and Attitudes (notes from class)

5th century BCE is the classical period in Greece.
Greeks made statues that aren't how they actually looked, but what they wished that the looked like.
For the Greek, nature imitated art. The athletes would see statues around the olympic stadium and gained inspiration from it. They covered themselves in olive oil in order to look more like the bronze statues. Huge connection between sport and art.
Worst idea: Split between mind and body. The mind and the body are equally important. Each should be developed simultaneously.
Body represented the soul. Word for body in ancient Greek is the same as the word temple.
