Grunewald Isenheim Altarpiece

The Isenheim Altarpiece is an altarpiece painting by the German artist Matthias Grunewald started in 1506 and completed in 1515. It is on display at the Unterlinden Museum in France. Often called his greatest work, the Isenheim Altarpiece is by far his largest. It was painted for a Monastery. The monks of the Monastery were noted for their treatment of suffers of skin disease. Such symptoms are displayed by figures including the crucified Christ in the altarpiece.
