Saint Denis

Saint Denis is a large abbey church in the northern suburbs of Paris. It is about 6 miles form the center of Paris. The building is unique. It was founded in the 7th century on the burial of Saint Denis. It became a place of pilgrimage and the burial place of many French kings. It was the first major structure of which a substantial part was designed and built in the Gothic style.
