Hannah Wilke's work S.O.S. (Starification Object Series) was completed in 1974. Born in New York, Wilke worked with sculpture, photography, and body art. In S.O.S., Wilke merged minimilist sculpture and her own body by creating timy vulval sculptures out of chewing gum and placing them on her body. She then had herself photographer in various poses. These poses exaggerate and satirize American cultural values of feminine beauty and fashion.
