Foreshortened Christ

The Lamentation over the Dead Christ is a painted complete around 1480 by the Italian Renaissance artist Andrea Mantegna. The dating of the piece is debated. It portrays the body Christ on a marble slab. He is watch over by the Virgin Mary and St. John, who are crying over his demise. The theme of this painting is common in this period.
